The activity coordinated by Professor Dr. Elena Crespo Navarro, Jean Monnet Chair holder was held on October 14 and 15, 2024<\/strong>, in Room 1.6 of the Arenals Building<\/strong> (Elche Campus).<\/p>\n

The course consisted of two roundtables. The FIRST ROUND TABLE titled Facing New Challenges and Threats to Security: The Role of the Spanish Armed Forces<\/em><\/strong> was held on Monday, October 14. It featured the participation of Prof. Dr. Carlos Jim\u00e9nez Piernas<\/em>, Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the University of Alcal\u00e1, and Colonel Francisco Jos\u00e9 Marcos Mart\u00edn<\/em>, from the Strategic Analysis Area of DICOES, Ministry of Defense.The round table was moderated by Prof. Dr. Elena Crespo Navarro<\/em>, Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at University Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n

The SECOND ROUND TABLE took place on Tuesday, October 15, under the title Spain\u2019s Role in the European Union\u2019s Military Operations<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em> The speakers were Colonel Juan Bill\u00f3n La\u00e1<\/em>, Head of the Defense Culture Area at DICOES, Ministry of Defense, and Prof. Dr. Valent\u00edn Bou Franch,<\/em> Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the University of Valencia. The round table was moderated by Prof. Dr. Jaume Ferrer Lloret<\/em>, Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the University of Alicante.<\/p>\n

The primary objective<\/strong> of the activity was to promote awareness, debate, and reflection within civil society (particularly among the university community) about the work of the Spanish Armed Forces and their vital importance in ensuring the defense of our country in an environment of international peace and security. The aim is to reflect on the many and varied challenges and threats that must be faced to ensure security in the current strategic context, as well as to explore the potential tools to address them. It also focuses on the need to enhance shared security by strengthening cooperation and alliances. Additionally, the goal is to increase the visibility of military operations deployed abroad, highlighting their importance in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and post-conflict stabilization. The activity seeks to improve public understanding of the objectives, functioning, and activities carried out on the ground by international missions and operations, while contributing to the creation of a defense culture and fostering dialogue between representatives of civil and military administrations and civil society as a whole.<\/p>\n

The activity was aimed <\/strong>at university students, particularly those enrolled in the Degree in Law (on-campus and hybrid), Dual Degree in Business Administration and Law (DADE), Degree in Political Science and Public Administration and Degree in Journalism. It was also open to students from other fields with limited access to these topics, such as Psychology, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, and students over 55 years old from the \u201cSabiex\u201d Program at the University, as well as faculty and the general public. A certificate of attendance was provided to those who, having attended both roundtables, requested it.<\/p>\n

On December 2, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., the Seminar Challenges for the protection of human rights in the digital environment<\/strong><\/em> was held coordinated by the Jean Monnet Chair (ReinforcEU<\/em>) at UMH as part of the project Data-oriented justice and efficiency<\/em> in Administration (<\/em>Legaltech UMH<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Professors Elena Crespo Navarro, Roc\u00edo M. Pozo Tom\u00e1s, and Adela Rodr\u00edguez Ma\u00f1ogil<\/strong>, UMH Jean Monnet Chair ReinforcEU<\/em> team members, participated on December 11, 2024<\/strong>, in the roundtable discussion on Radio UMH’s Frecuencia Legal<\/strong>, hosted and co-directed by Prof. Jos\u00e9 Carlos Espigares Huete and Luis Baeza, a DADE student at the University of Alicante. Carmen Ortiz del Valle, Professor of Commercial Law at the UMH, also participated in the program.<\/p>\n

The discussion focused on the UMH Jean Monnet Chair ReinforcEU<\/em> and on the research being conducted by PhD candidates Roc\u00edo M. Pozo Tom\u00e1s and Adela Rodr\u00edguez Ma\u00f1ogil within this framework under the supervision of Prof. Elena Crespo Navarro.<\/p>\n

Alessandra Nasoni<\/strong>, PhD Student of the UMH PhD Program in Social and Legal Sciences, Honorary Collaborator of the Area of Public International Law and International Relations of the University Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez of Elche and\u00a0<\/span>Jean Monnet ReinforcEU<\/em>, Chair\u2019s team member taught\u00a0<\/span>on March 3th 2025<\/strong>, a seminar on the funding system and the protection of the financial interests of the EU, the European Court of Auditors and the European Central Bank, aimed at students of the Degree in Law and the Double Degree in DADE at the UMH.<\/p>\n

The seminar, directed by Prof. Dr. Elena Crespo Navarro, Associate Professor of Public International Law and International Relations of the UMH and Jean Monnet Chair holder, took place in the morning (DADE group) and in the afternoon (Law group).<\/p>\n
